Jungah Kim's Teaching Portfolio

thekoreanvictorian: Sharing Experiences as an Asian, Victorian Instructor

My name is Jungah Kim and I am currently an Instructor of Record/Graduate Assistant Lecturer at Texas A&M as a  Ph.D. Candidate of English. I am a driven and capable passionate teacher with 8+ years of experience in teaching students and 5+ years of experience as a college instructor. I teach courses related to my field such as Victorian Literature and composition courses.

Welcome!

My teaching centers mostly on the Victorian period, with an aim to un-discipline the field whilst appreciating the literature of the nineteenth century. For instance, my course on English 203, Writing about Literature, "Cultivating Jane Eyre’s Rhythm," examines Jane Eyre and also adaptations to it that uncover underrepresented gender and race that has not been highlighted during the Victorian period. One of the novels we have studied in the course, Patricia Park’s Re Jane, was a pivotal work that also allowed students to engage with it, as it is set in the 21st century. I also had the opportunity to set up a separate event for the class so that they could meet a real life author that wrote about Jane Eyre. The online public event with the author in my class was hosted by the Department of English and entitled,  “Cultivating Jane Eyre’s Rhythm with Patricia Park’s Re Jane.” The students actively interacted and participated in the lecture.
